NaNoWriMo Off to a Lackluster Start
November first showed up. I was supposed to have NaNoWriMo at the front of my brain, but recent thoughts around other goals shared the limelight.
Our little Halloween party was a success. All the kids had a great time, and Leigh chatted with Ash forever. As if that weren’t enough, Leigh kept me up a bit later than that. I’m not complaining.
I slept great, and late. The clock said 10:30, which meant it was actually 11:30, so that’s some fair amount of rest. I was supposed to get a great start on my novel for NaNoWriMo, though, and I don’t write very well after about 9a.
I went ahead to Aroma anyway. It was crowded, I had to sit in one of the cushy chairs in the back, and various bits of patron gossip drowned out any real thoughts that tried to move from brain to fingertip to keyboard. Also, the freakazoid to my left kept staring at me and smiling for ten second intervals. That was totally wigging me out after a while. So I left.
On the way home, I did flesh out in my mind all the work that I wished I had written while at the coffee shop. It’s still in my mind, not out in the file yet, but at least it came to life.
NaNoWriMo will have to compete with my other new life goals, but it might just find a place after all.
