Week 1 Personal Changelog

Start. Morning pushups: 3 sets

  • 2009-11-02: 30 x 20 x 30 (Wow, disappointing!)
  • 2009-11-03: 25 x 25 x 20 (What’s going on here?)
  • 2009-11-04: Skipped it to give my sore pecs and damaged left shoulder a rest, then see what happens tomorrow.
  • 2009-11-05: 35 x 25 x 30 (My shoulder feels almost new; getting somewhere.)
  • 2009-11-06: 30 x 25 x 35
  • 2009-11-07: Skipped to see what happens by skipping another day.
  • 2009-11-08: 30 x 30 x 0 (I got distracted.)

Start. Coffee restriction: Morning at home and social only.

Vice Grip

Vice Grip

  • 2009-11-02: Two latte’s at home before work; FAIL! One Americano from Aroma. While it was free, it still breaks the rules.
  • 2009-11-03: One latte at home before work; FAIL! One Americano from Aroma; Another Americano during lunch with Tom at Aroma. That counts as social — not a second fail!
  • 2009-11-04: One latte at home before work; Immediate FAIL! One Americano from Aroma before I even went to work.
  • 2009-11-05: One latte at home before work; Immediate FAIL! One Americano from Aroma, shortly after arriving at work. As it turns out, whenever I think “Why the hell should I do anything at all today?” I turn to coffee and say “eh, whatever.”; Secondary FAIL! One Americano from Aroma, shortly after a meeting of questionable value, just before preparation for another meeting of questionable value.
  • 2009-11-06: One latte at home before work; Immediate FAIL! One Americano from Aroma, as soon as I got downtown. I’m thinking this coffee goal thing might not work out; Secondary FAIL! One Americano during lunch so I could work on NaNoWriMo. Then I had a latte at Aroma with Aaron, but that was social, so it wasn’t cheating.
  • 2009-11-07: A few lattes at home. Maybe four. That’s not a fail, because they’re not bought outside the home.
  • 2009-11-08: Same as the 7th.

Start. One multi-vitamin daily.

What's in there?

What's in there?

  • 2009-11-02: Actually remembered to take it out of my pocket and ingest it today.
  • 2009-11-03: It’s in my pocket belly.
  • 2009-11-04: At this time it is in my pocket tummy.
  • 2009-11-05: In my pocket. Still. I took it.
  • 2009-11-06: I have it with me. Now it’s on top of a peanut butter sandwich in my gut.
  • 2009-11-07: I didn’t take it until 8:00 p.m. The only reason I remembered was the changelog, so good show!
  • 2009-11-08: Yes, I took it.

2009-11-04

  • Section 2-2: “More on Solving Equations”

2009-11-07

I didn’t plan to do any math on the weekends, and maybe not any programming. However, I was really itching for some problem-solving by 7:00 p.m., though, so I did a few sections before we headed down to watch X-Files.

In case you’re wondering, I’m going through this older math book as a matter of covering all the bases, reinforcing fundamentals. I have a few different books at each level, and am going to do exercises in them all as a matter of practice.

“Algebra Two and Trigonometry” (a high school book)

  • 2009-11-06: Finished sixth day of CodeIgniter tutorials.

Daily progress on novel

I have to say, I’m in big trouble here. “Math thinking,” “Database thinking,” and “Creative writing thinking” are so different for me, that I’m pretty much not getting any of the novel written out of my mind. Really getting behind.

2009-11-06:

1700 words done. I need 50,000 words by midnight, November 30th. 1700 may not be much, but I think it was enough to prime the pump.

A tasty combination. I didn't eat the pumpkin, though, the squirrels did.

A tasty combination. I didn't eat the pumpkin, though, the squirrels did.

Start. Beer restriction: Social only.

2009-11-04: I’ve identified that Wednesday is the day beer seeds are planted.
Update: The beer seeds just got a lot of water and sunshine.

2009-11-05: Those beer seeds are already sprouting. The more I have to hold my tongue around idiots, the more I have to suppress my own true feelings, the faster these beer sprouts grow. I’m starting to figure this thing out.

2009-11-06: Beer seeds have chilled out today. Partly because certain people are not at work today, and partly because I have renewed hope for moving forward on my NaNoWriMo novel! Of course, once I get to the grocery store tomorrow, that might all change. I have a new grocery store beer favorite: 2 Below.
Update: I didn’t really “fail,” per se. I did purchase some 2 Below at Meijer this evening, and I enjoyed some in a non-social setting, but I really deserved it. I have kicked some major personal butt this week.

2009-11-07: I continued to kick butt today. Since there were tasty beverages present, well, I had a few non-socials. So shoot me.
